Blizzard warning

A blizzard warning has been issued by the National Weather Service for Mason County effective 4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 22 until 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 24. Other areas that may be impacted include Lake, Oceana, Newaygo, Muskegon, Ottawa, Kent, Allegan, Barry, VanBuren, and Kalamazoo counties.

Total snow accumulations of 10 to 20 inches are possible with winds gusting as high as 45 mph. While the snow will start by mid afternoon on Thursday, the strong winds will not start until Friday morning. It is then that conditions may become dangerous due to low wind chills, blowing snow, and very low visibilities. Power outages are possible.

“Bring it on,” Santa Claus said when contacted by MCP. “This storm should have no impact on my gift delivery but people should use caution when traveling.”
