Road commission plans road connecting PM Highway and Jebavy Dr.

PERE MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — The Mason County Road Commission is planning to build a road between Pere Marquette Highway and South Jebavy Drive. The road, located on 2.8 acres of property purchased by the road commission, will run to the south of Family Fare, formerly Shop-N-Save.

Recently South Jebavy Drive from US 10 south, has been classified as a local road, which puts it under the jurisdiction of the road commission. According to Eric Nelson, Mason County highway engineer, the road commission has been working with the Michigan Department of Transportation to reclassify South Jebavy Drive as a “minor collector.” The category makes the roadway eligible for MDOT funding.

“This connection of roads from US 10, South Jebavy Drive east to Pere Marquette Highway will be an ‘all season roadway,” Nelson said. “It will provide year-round access for the businesses on South Jebavy Drive.”

Currently, South Jebavy Drive is subject to weight restrictions February through April. Once South Jebavy Drive and the connector road are reconstructed/constructed to all season standards, the roadway will be usable to all legal loads throughout the year, Nelson said.

Pere Marquette Charter Township will be working with the road commission to make improvements to water and sanitary seer in conjunction with future road construction, Nelson said.

“MDOT and the MCRC are working together to determine if any improvements will be needed at the intersection of US 10 and Jebavy Drive,” Nelson said.

The work is expected to take place in 2026.
