SHERIDAN TOWNSHIP — Sheridan Township is home to 11 inland lakes, more than any other township in Mason County. The largest is Round Lake (which MCP featured last week) is 571 acres. Ford Lake comes in second at 208 acres. Ford Lake has a public access site which is administered by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. A Michigan State Park Recreational Pass is required in order to park at the site, located on Griffin Road.

Just to the northwest of Ford Lake is Mud Lake, located on private property. A little further northwest is Thunder Lake and Chancellor Lake (also known as Blue Lake). These lakes are just a few miles outside of the Village of Fountain. A few miles southeast of Ford Lake is Picnic Lake and then Cartier Lake. A few miles south of Ford Lake is Round Lake followed by Tallman Lake, which is split between Sheridan and Branch townships.

This is a great area to explore. I especially enjoy the areas around Ford, Thunder and Blue lakes where the roads take you around one lake and then lead right to another. This is especially a fun area to cruise around on the side-by-side.
