Trio accused of stealing businesses’ smoker arraigned

LUDINGTON — The three men accused of stealing a smoker valued at $5,200 from a local business were arraigned late last week.

Garth Allen Lemere, 23, of Scottville, Devonta Gene Young, 27, of Ludington, and Alvonya Martel Brown, 25, of Ludington, were each charged with larceny of $1,000 or more but less than $20,000, during their arraignments on Oct. 19, 2022. The felony charge is punishable by up to five years imprisonment or a fine three times the value of the property stolen, whichever is greater, or both imprisonment and a fine. Both Lemere and Young face additional charges of habitual offender, second offense.

The Lone Star Smoker grill was stolen from The Weiner Wagon, located at the 10 Spot food truck court, 5750 US 10, Pere Marquette Township on Tuesday, Oct. 18. The alleged suspects were caught later that day by Mason County Sheriff’s Office deputies in the 1100 block of North Amber Road in Amber Township.

Young’s bail was et at $10,000 cash while Lemere and Brown’s bail was set at $5,000, 10 percent.

Lemere additionally faces separate misdemeanor charges of larceny less than $200 and disorderly person disturbing the peace following a July 20 arrest by the Mason County Sheriff’s Office.

In July, Young was sentenced in Mason County’s 51st Circuit Court to serve one year, six months in jail for the charge of seduction, from an Aug. 1, 2019 offense. He also was sentenced to serve one year, six months on two charges of assaulting/resisting/obstructing a police officer.
