Taste of Mason County to be held Oct. 29.

LUDINGTON — The Scottville Beekeepers of Mason County will hold The Sweet Taste of Mason County at the Ludington Area Senior Center, 308 S. Rowe St., on Saturday, Oct. 29 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event is open to all ages.

Local beekeepers will be on hand to share the varied tastes of their liquid gold.

The event will include more than a dozen honey tasting stations, information sessions on beekeeping throughout the day, equipment demonstrations, observation hives with live bees, children’s activities and honey for sale. It will also feature Ed Malkowski, known by the club as Mason County’s “patron saint of bees.”

Best practices of stewardship are shared at the club’s monthly meetings. Field trips to various apiaries throughout the season, provide opportunities for hands-on learning. Newbees can pair up with seasoned “beeks” as mentors, fostering learning and success.

Homeowners can contact the club to discuss the possibility of and procedures for removal.

The club meets on the third Thursday of each month at the Scottville Methodist Church, 114 W. State St., Scottville from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. The group is free to anyone interested in becoming a beekeeper or simply wanting to know how to best support these vital pollinators in their own gardens.
