Driver found passed out behind the wheel arrested on 8 warrants.

The Battle Creek man was also arrested on charges of drunk driving, resisting arrest and driving on a suspended license.

BRANCH TOWNSHIP — A 44-year-old Battle Creek man was arrested by Mason County sheriff’s deputies on eight outstanding warrants and charges of operating while intoxicated, resisting arrest and driving while license suspended after he was found passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle following a crash Thursday, Oct. 6, shortly after 9 p.m. at Walhalla Road and US 10, according to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole.

“Once awakened, the suspect reportedly started the vehicle and attempted to drive away,” said Sheriff Cole. “A deputy intervened by reaching into the vehicle and keeping it in park. The suspect allegedly gave a fake name, and upon learning his true identity, deputies found him to have eight outstanding warrants from around the state.” Five warrants were for failure to appear on various charges, including assault, failure to pay child support and a traffic offense.

No one was injured in the one-vehicle crash.

Other police activity in Mason County Thursday, Oct. 6, 2022 includes:

  • 5:40 a.m., (Mason County Sheriff’s Office), car/deer crash, no injury, Chauvez Road west of Stiles Road, Riverton Township.
  • 7:25 a.m., (MCSO), car/deer crash, no injury, Hansen Road west of US 31, Amber Township.
  • ​6:33 p.m., (Ludington Police Department), a 30-year-old Ludington man was arrested for domestic assault and battery, 500 North Lavinia Street​, City of Ludington. The victim, who is a 33-year-old Ludington woman, had a bloody lip and redness on her neck, according to Cpt. Steve Wietrzykowski. No medical attention was sought at the time of report. The man was lodged in the Mason County Jail.
  • 7:46 p.m., (MCSO), car/deer crash, no injury, US 31 north of Hansen Road, Custer Township.
