By Rob Alway, Editor-in-Chief

BRANCH TOWNSHIP — Fire destroyed a barn and killed farm animals early Thursday morning. Firefighters were initially called to the Clark and Misty Davis residence, 1642 N. Schoenherr Road, at 6:05 a.m. Branch Township Assistant Chief Luke McVicker said the barn was fully engulfed in flames when the first fire truck arrived.

McVicker said goats and pigs perished in the fire but several other farm animals were able to escape. He said there was a lot of hay stored in the barn but not a lot of equipment.

Fire departments on scene included Branch Fire Department, Fountain Area Fire Department, Custer Fire Department and Scottville Fire Department. The Fountain Fire Department Auxiliary was also on scene. Bob Peters provided assistance with equipment.

Firefighters were still on scene as of 9:50 a.m.
