Chamber celebrates business, community involvement.

HAMLIN TOWNSHIP — The Ludington & Scottville Area Chamber of Commerce held its 2022 awards dinner Thursday night, presenting various awards to area businesses and community activists.

Safe Harbor Credit Union of Pere Marquette Township was awarded the 2022 Business of the Year while WMOM radio of Ludington received the 2022 Small Business of the Year. Tom and Patricia Ezdebski were awarded the Community Service Award.

In 2021, Safe Harbor Credit Union moved to its new location, 5511 W. US 10 between Pere Marquette Highway and Jebavy Drive. The credit union began as the Dow Chemical credit union over 70 years ago and now provides services to the general public. It is involved in a variety of local community programs.

WMOM was purchased by Chris Nicholas in 2020 who continued the station’s tradition of covering local sports, highlighting news and interviewing various people from the community.

The Ezdebskis’s most notable community involvement is their leadership in the Ludington Optimist Club’s Childhood Cancer Campaign. Since the campaign began it has raised over $600,000 in donations with the expectation of reaching over $1 million in 2023. Tom also is an active little league t-ball and soccer coach.

During the evening, the chamber’s 2022 Future Five recipients were also recognized. Future Five are individuals who are currently influencing growth, prosperity and quality of life in Mason County and demonstrate the ability to positively impact the area in the future through professional accomplishments and community involvement. To have been considered for the award, nominees must have been under the age of 40 by December 31, 2021.

They include Marissa Barnett, Elliott Plummer, Alex Richert, Brittany Septrion, and Patti Skinner.

The event was held at Lincoln Hills Golf Club.
