Baldwin schools evacuated following bomb threat

BALDWIN — Baldwin Community Schools was evacuated Thursday afternoon following a bomb threat made by a bank robber in another part of Lake County, according to a press release from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

Osceola State Bank’s Luther branch was robbed at 10 a.m. Thursday morning. According to the sheriff’s office press release, the alleged bank robber gave a note to the teller stating there was a bomb at a school. “It made no reference to a particular school,” the press release stated. “For safety reasons, security and lockdown protocols have been activated to area schools.”

Baldwin schools were evacuated with students bused to the Yates Township Hall on Nelson Road in Idlewild, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. Parents were instructed to pick up their children at that location.

“Again, we believe there is no threat to the public, however this is a precautionary measure.”

According to a Mason County school official, none of the schools in Mason County were impacted by the alleged threat, but they were made aware of it.

Details of the bank robbery have not yet been released.
