Carla Rae Lobenherz

Obituary: Carla Lobenherz, 69, of Ludington.

Carla Rae Lobenherz, currently of Ludington, was born July 8, 1953, while her family was at Camp Pendleton, San Diego County, California, to Richard and Dora (Miller) Krieger.  After a long illness, Carla passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, September 12, 2022.

Most of Carla’s childhood and adult life was spent in the Lansing area, where she graduated from Waverly High School and attended Lansing Community College.  She was a familiar and loved part of downtown Lansing, where she waited table at the well-known Kewpee’s restaurant for 18 years while single handedly raising and supporting her 3 children from a previous marriage.  Following that, she became a familiar and popular vendor at flea markets throughout Michigan, and several of the major venues in the Midwest, including the Shipshewana, Indiana, Flea Market.

Carla had a passion for antiques and jewelry, with an eye for beautiful and unique pieces. She also was always quick to help those in most need; had a kind and sincere heart; and a bright smile that would light up the room.  She was the consummate host of family holiday gatherings, where up to 30 of her family and close friends would gather for bountiful food, friendly banter, and the traditional evening poker game.

Together with her surviving husband of 22 years, William Lobenherz, they had eight children, 14 grandchildren (no great-grandchildren yet), and nieces and nephews too numerous to mention but all of whom she loved dearly.  Also surviving are her two sisters Melissa Ann (Missy) Kinder (with husband John), Sara Elizabeth Williams (with husband Joseph); daughter Elizabeth Tenney and sons Matthew David Tenney and Alan Charles Tenney, and step children Heidi and Thomas Babbo, Jessica and Kevin Balistreri, Rebecca Lobenherz, Christopher and Tonda Lobenherz, and Andrew Lobenherz.  Also surviving is another person in her life who was special to Carla and her children, her ex-mother in law, Joy Wood.

Carla was predeceased by her mother, father, and younger brother, Harold.

Local Ludington funeral services are not planned, but a Celebration of Life gathering will be arranged to take place in the Lansing area later this year.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice, as all help counts.

Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, Pere Marquette Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
