WSCC instrumental, vocal and theater groups return. 

WSCC News is a presentation of West Shore Community College in partnership with Mason County Press. 

VICTORY TOWNSHIP — West Shore Community College will bring its performance groups back together for in-person practice and sessions beginning the week of August 29.  “We are extremely excited to begin our WSCC performance season with all groups back in full-force,” said Ted Malt, director of the Performing Arts Series and professor of music studies.

“We are anticipating large numbers in many of these groups and we are all looking forward to making outstanding music. I believe we have built something truly special with these programs.”

WSCC Wind Symphony:  Rehearsals begin Monday, August 29, 6 to 8 p.m.
The West Shore Community College Wind Symphony serves as WSCC’S instrumental music concert band. This ensemble is made up of talented community musicians as well as WSCC musicians and talented high school musicians aspiring to bring their musicianship to the next level. There is no required audition for this group, however the ability to read music and have basic musical facility on his/her instrument is mandatory.

WSCC Drumline:  Auditions, Saturday, August 13, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and August 29, 7:30 to 8:45 p.m. Rehearsals will be every Monday at 7:30 p.m.
The WSCC drumline is in its second year of existence.  Audition spots are available for snare drum, bass drum, tenors, and cymbals.  Musicians of all ages are encouraged to audition.  This group will be featured throughout the year at various regional events and will share two concerts with the Wind Symphony. They will also be featured in the “WSCC Holiday Rock Spectacular Reunion” in December.

WSCC Jazz Band 2: Rehearsals begin Thursday September 1, 5:30  to 6:45 p.m.
Jazz Band 2 is new to WSCC this year.  This group is non-auditioned, open to all instruments and musicians of all ages.  This group will be working throughout the year on jazz fundamentals, jazz performance and improvisation. Additionally, Jazz Band 2 will share two concerts with Jazz Band 1.  No prior jazz performance is necessary to play in this group.

WSCC Jazz Band 1: Rehearsals begin Thursday September 1, 7 to 8:30 p.m.
Membership in Jazz Band 1 is by audition or appointment only.  This group focuses on high level jazz literature and improvisation.  All spots for Jazz Band 1 are filled at this time, however if there are any musicians interested in performing with Jazz Band 1, please attend Jazz Band 2 rehearsals.

WSCC Concert Choir: Rehearsals begin Tuesday, August 30, 7 to 9  p.m.
The WSCC Concert choir is a non-auditioned group of vocalists wanting to sing in a large ensemble setting. As no audition is required, previous vocal or choral music experience will help each individual with basic music-reading and understanding choral music in scores.

WSCC Theater Department Auditions for “Peter and the Starcatcher:” September 19- 20, 7 p.m. at Center Stage Theater.

Those auditioning should come in comfortable clothing and bring their imaginations. Actors of all skill and experience levels are encouraged to audition. No advanced preparation is necessary.
