Obituary: William Copeland, 73, of Scottville.

William Michael Copeland, 73, of Scottville, passed away on Thursday, July 21, 2022.

Bill was born on May 29, 1949 in Peru, Indiana, the son of William and Betty (Fontain) Copeland. He graduated from Peru High School with the class of 1968 then enlisted in the United States Army. Bill worked as a conductor for Chessie System, later retiring from CSX Railroad. On April Fool’s Day of 1995, the long-time bachelor got married to Carol Lynn Durfee.

Bill enjoyed fishing, working with wood, and shooting. He was and advocate for the Second Amendment and very active in promoting License-to-Carry, always trying to get people signed up.

Bill is survived by his wife of 27 years, Carol Lynn Copeland; sister, Suzy Dresser; nieces, Rachael Dresser, Leah Dresser, and Carol Milton; nephews, Jim Dresser and Michael Milton; great nephew, Jalen Thompson; brother-in-law, Jim (Sandra) Durfee; sister-in-law, Jane Durfee; nieces, Becky (Mike) Durfee and Beth (Paul) McPherson; nephew, Brandon Wendt; and great nephews, Cody Heckman, Teddy Heckman, and William McPherson.

Besides his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his sister, Lynne Copeland, and his parents-in-law, Percy and Bernice Durfee.

Bill’s Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at 2:30 p.m. at Oak Grove Funeral Home of Ludington with visitation starting at 1:30 p.m. He will be laid to rest at Scottville Brookside Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sugar Ridge Church of the Brethren.

Arrangements were entrusted to Oak Grove Funeral Home of Ludington.
