SCOTTVILLE — Mason County Central fifth grade student Aubree Genta received the MCC Upper Elementary’s Courage of Gabe Award today, June 10, during the school’s end-of-the school year awards ceremony.

The Courage of Gabe award is given to a student annually for over coming obstacles. It is named after recent MCC graduate Gabe Sessions, who graduated in 2021.

“Last year Aubree experienced a major surgery that caused her to have many challenges and spend a lot of time away from school,” Principal Kevin Kimes said. “This year she overcame those challenges and excelled at school. On top of that, there was a fourth grader in our school who had a similar medical condition as Aubree, who also had surgery. Aubree was there for this student and shared her pain, mentored her, listened to her, any time she needed it. She gives herself to others.

“These type of people are world champions and leaders and Aubree is a perfect example of what this award means. These type of people change the world with kindness and in simple ways that make huge differences. I couldn’t be a more proud Spartan today to present this award to her.”

Aubree is the daughter of Amanda Genta and Jim Krieger.
