MCE presents “Robin Hood”

FOUNTAIN — Mason County Eastern drama club will present the play “Robin Hood” Thursday, March 17, Friday, March 18, and Saturday, March 19 at 6:30 p.m. at Sherman Township Hall,

3854 E. Main St. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students. The production, under the direction of Anesa Beilfuss Gulembo, is the first play presented by MCE since the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Robin Hood” is the legendary tale of historic beginnings, epic sword fighting battles, daring rescues, bumbling henchman and first love. Forced into exile in Sherwood Forest, young Robin of Locksley learns to become a leader of an outlaw band dedicated to resisting the evil Sheriff of Nottingham. It’s all merry adventures and celebratory dances until the Sheriff strikes a devastating blow to the young rebels and forces Robin to make a difficult decision. Can he be the hero that Nottingham needs… even if it means losing his life?

“Robin Hood” features the performances of 24 Mason County Eastern students from grades sixth through 12th, a live performance of the MCE band, and props and scenery created by the MCE high school art class.

“I couldn’t host a production like this without the help of the teachers and administration at the school,” Gulembo said. “They are so good to me, and as an alumni – some of these staff members, I’ve known my whole life. Something this scale takes a village to produce. I am so grateful for my community support of parents, contacts at local churches, but also my fellow colleagues at Mason County Central,  Ludington High School, and West Shore Community College. Tom Richert, Chris Plummer and Michelle Kiessel have been so encouraging and helpful to me over the years. We have a great community.”

The production features fight scenes that might be frightening to small children. It is not encouraged for children under the age of 5.
