WSCC Phi Theta Kappa All-Michigan Academic Team honored.

VICTORY TOWNSHIP — The Michigan Community College Association hosted its annual awards luncheon honoring Michigan community college honor students on March 7, at the Lansing Center in East Lansing.

Seventy-nine students from 26 Michigan community colleges were recognized for being named to the Phi Theta Kappa All-Michigan Academic Team.

Nominees from West Shore Community College were Lauren Keller and Shelby Fraly.  They were selected based on academic achievement, community service involvement and leadership accomplishments.

Catreese Qualls, Division III International Vice President Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society was the keynote speaker.  A first generation non-traditional college student, she spoke on vulnerable populations in today’s environment.

All-State recognition programs are conducted in 32 states. All-state team members have the opportunity to be named to the All-USA Team, and may receive stipends from USA Today and Coca-Cola.

Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society, headquartered in Jackson, Miss., is the largest honor society in American higher education with 1,275 chapters on two-year and community college campuses in all 50 of the United States and throughout the world.  More than two million students have been inducted since its founding in 1918, with approximately 100,000 students inducted annually.

WSCC launched a PTK chapter in 1992, and through chapter and individual projects, members continue to serve the college and community.
