AMBER TOWNSHIP — Fire and smoke damaged a house at 1239 W. Harold St. Friday afternoon, Feb. 4, 2022. Firefighters were dispatched to the house just after noon for a report of smoke in the walls. The homeowner said he had been working on the house for a few years and the pipe froze overnight. Though he was attempting to defrost the pipes, he did not believe that was the direct cause of the fire. The fire displaced three adults and two children; the American Red Cross was called to assist them.

Emergency units responding included Scottville Fire Department, Custer Fire Department, Mason County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police, and Life EMS.

Fire personnel cleared the scene by 1:14 p.m.
