Around the County is a presentation of Preferred Credit Union, www.preferredcu.org, located locally at 266 N. Jebavy Dr., Ludington.

PERE MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP —The 2021 Shop with a Cop/Shop with a Hero program is taking place evenings this week at Walmart and Meijer. Children with financial need are teamed up with police officers, firefighters, EMTs, and military personnel, and provided with a gift card to purchase gifts for their families. They also get their photo taken, and a meal from Jimmy John’s. 

Gift cards are provided through grants from Meijer and Walmart, along with donations received through the program’s annual pie auction. The gifts are wrapped by volunteers. Over 20 emergency personnel help out each night.
