Christopher Angelakos, 101, of Ludington.

Christopher J. Angelakos, 101, of Ludington passed away Sunday, November 7, 2021 at his home with his family by his side.  He was born August 31, 1920 in Chicago to James and Georgia (Drakoulakos) Angelakos.  Chris graduated from St. Simon Catholic School in Ludington.  After high school he was drafted into the U.S. Army and proudly served his country during World War II.  Chris was a part of the 11th Armored Division in Patton’s 3rd Army.  He worked as an armorer (small arms repair).  He fought in the Battle of the Bulge, Rhineland Campaign, and Central Europe.  He received the American Theater Medal, EAME Theater Medal with three campaign stars, Good Conduct Medal, and the WWII Victory Medal.

After the military, Chris came back to Ludington and worked for Hansen Chevrolet in the parts department and WKLA radio station where he queued and broadcasted commercials.  Chris then married Maria Aggelakou on February 16, 1961 in Athens, Greece.  Together they raised two wonderful boys.  Chris worked for the U. S. Postal Service in Ludington as a letter carrier for over 25 years, retiring in 1978.  After retirement, he and Maria owned and operated Maria’s Cuisine Restaurant on Ludington Ave. from 1981 to 1998.

Chris was a former member of American Legion Post 76 Ludington and was also a member of the Greek Orthodox church in Muskegon.  In his leisure time, he enjoyed furniture woodworking, oil painting, and creating stained glass art.  He also enjoyed fishing, electronics repair, and rooting for his favorite team, the Chicago White Sox.

Chris will be greatly missed by his wife of 60 years, Maria; his sons, James Angelakos of Ludington and Nicholas (Kathleen) Angelakos of Sterling Heights; his four grandchildren, Christopher, Matthew, Kailyn, and Taya Angelakos, several cousins, and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Chris was preceded in death by his brother, Diogenes “Dodge” Angelakos, and his sister, Bessie Schohl.

A funeral will be held Thursday, November 11, 2021 at noon at the Oak Grove Funeral Home in Ludington.  Family will greet friends starting at 11 a.m.  Chris will be laid to rest at Lakeview Cemetery in Ludington.

Memorial contributions in Chris’ name may be directed to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Muskegon.
