SCOTTVILLE — Two people were arrested Friday, Sept. 24, 2021 by the Scottville Police Department and charged with felony drug charges. The arrests make the third drug arrests in the city this week.

Anthony Jordan Genta, 36, of 555 N. Jackpine Road, Branch Township, and Alys Jean Benyo, 33, of Amber Township, were arrested following a traffic stop at the intersection of Broadway and Columbia avenues.

“At 1:26 p.m., the Scottville Police Department located a vehicle coming out of a well known area for drug use,” said Scottville Police Chief Matt Murphy. “SPD was able to make contact with the individuals during a traffic stop. After making contact and after subsequent investigation the subjects were found to be in possession of methamphetamine.”

Both Genta and Benyo were arraigned in 79th District Court.

Genta faces the felony charge of possession of methamphetamine along with the misdemeanor charges of operating a motor vehicle with no security (insurance) and operating an unregistered vehicle. Bail was set at $10,000 cash only. A probable cause hearing is scheduled for Oct. 6, 2021 at 11:15 a.m.

Benyo was charged with one felony count of possession of methamphetamine. Bail was set at $500 cash. A probable cause hearing is scheduled for Oct. 6 at 11:15 a.m.

Genta is a repeat drug offender who is currently on probation for an Aug. 28, 2020 charge in Mason County of controlled substance, possession of methamphetamine/ecstacy. In 2017 he was arrested on charges of controlled substance possession of analogues. In 2020 he was also charged with domestic violence and malicious destruction of property. On those two charges, he is scheduled for a jury trial in district court on Oct. 29, 2021.

On Wednesday, SPD arrested Joseph TerHaar on similar charges. See story here.

Mason County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit assisted at the scene of Friday’s arrest.
