Police searching for man in connection with assault.

AMBER TOWNSHIP — Law enforcement authorities are currently searching for a 46-year-old man wanted in connection with a felony assault. According to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole, a perimeter has been set up with US 31 freeway to the west, Stiles Road to the east, US 10/31 to the north and Conrad Road to the south. 

Police are searching for Bret Cooper, described as a white male, 6-feet tall, 170 pounds, brown hair, and possibly with a beard. He was last seen wearing a black ball cap and a green shirt. He could be armed.

Cooper allegedly assaulted a woman in the Home Depot parking lot. Police believe he may have a machete. As law enforcement was arriving, Cooper allegedly fled on foot. Cole said the woman was not injured, and knew Cooper. Neither are residents of Mason County.

Anyone spotting Cooper are asked to call 911. 

Pere Marquette Township Fire Department and Scottville Fire Department are assisting with road blocks. Also assisting on scene are Michigan State Police, Ludington Police Department, and Oceana County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit.
