Fair harness racing postponed again.

By Rob Alway, Editor-in-Chief.

PERE MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — Rain overnight has resulted in the decision to again postpone Colt Stakes Harness Racing at the Western Michigan Fair. According to fair association representative Marcia Hansen, the races will likely be on Sunday, Aug. 15 and Monday, Aug. 16. Harness racing had originally been scheduled to take place Sunday, Aug. 8 and Monday, Aug. 9. Rain then caused the fair association to consider holding the races today, Aug. 10.

Hansen said the track cannot be wet in order for the racing to take place. The fair association will make a decision on tonight’s grand stand event, Truck and Tractor Pull, by 2 p.m. If it takes place as scheduled, it will begin at 7 p.m. Fireworks are also scheduled for this evening. Currently, at 8:50 a.m. posting, there is an 11% chance of rain at 7 p.m. and a 37% chance at 8 p.m.

Today is the first day of the fair with the midway opening at 3 p.m. Today is Dollar Day, fair entrance is $1 per person. Rides from 3 to 11 p.m. are one ticket each. Tickets are $1 each; a wristband is available for unlimited rides, 3 to 11 p.m., $25.
