Badger to suspend sailing due to COVID-19 exposure.

LUDINGTON — Lake Michigan Carferry announced this morning that it will suspend sailing of the SS Badger for one week following today’s crossing due to a COVID-19 exposure of one of its employees. A press release stated that a crew member has tested positive for COVID-19. The company has conducted contact tracing and, as a result, three more crew members have been quarantined ashore and are awaiting results.

“The safety of our employees and passengers is our top priority,” said Mark Barker, president of Interlake Maritime Services, owner of Lake Michigan Carferry. “We are hopeful this is an isolated case. However, to reduce the risk of the virus spreading, we will be voluntarily suspending SS Badger sailings for approximately one week after the vessel completes its scheduled sailings on Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2021.”

Sara Spore, general manager of LMC, said she expects the Badger will resume service on Thursday, Aug. 19, but further updates will be provided as they become available.

“We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this will cause our valued customers,” Spore said. “If you have reservations to travel on the SS Badger between now and next Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2021, we would be happy to reschedule your booking or provide a full refund, whichever you prefer.”
