Scottville water main repaired, boil water order in effect.

SCOTTVILLE — The water main break in the 100 block of South Main Street that occurred Tuesday has been fixed, according to City Manager Jim Newkirk. A boil water order for that area is still in effect, however.

Newkirk said bacterial contamination may have occurred in the water system due to the drop in water pressure. He said he has hand delivered the notice to all impacted residents and businesses.

Scottville Department of Public Works employees spent most of Tuesday and Wednesday repairing the break.

The downtown water main was one of the few water mains that was not replaced about eight years ago when the city received a grant to replace the majority of the mains. Newkirk said he believes the downtown water main had been replaced in the late 1990s when the streetscape was re-built.
