Toddler who fell in pool dies.

MASON COUNTY — A 2-year-old girl died Wednesday night, May 19, after falling into a swimming pool Monday evening in Hamlin Township, according to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole.

The toddler was airlifted by Aeromed to DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids where she was in critical condition.

When Mason County sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene, the child was not breathing, said Sheriff Cole. According to dispatch information, the location was in the 6800 block of Illinois Street.

“When the first deputy on scene arrived, he found the child’s father performing CPR on his daughter,” said Sheriff Cole. “The deputy took over CPR until Hamlin Fire and Life EMS arrived.

“The investigation revealed the child got out of the house unnoticed and fell into the pool.”

“Mason County sheriff’s deputies were notified last night the 2-year-old child in the near drowning on Monday in Hamlin Township, has sadly passed away from the incident,” said Sheriff Cole Thursday afternoon.

Michigan State Police — Hart Post, Hamlin Fire Department, Life EMS and the Mason County Sheriff’s Office Victim Services Unit responded to the scene.
