LUDINGTON — Spring is often a time of many ceremonies and special events for high schoolers, especially graduating seniors. In 2020, many of those events were cancelled or altered. The staff at Ludington High School is trying to bring some normalcy back for current high school students.

“Last year there were a lot of unanswered questions and we didn’t have much choice but to cancel most events,” said LHS Principal Dan Mesyar. “This year, we have a better understanding of navigating through the COVID-19 pandemic and we are allowed more events, within following certain guidelines, of course.

The school will follow Michigan Department of Health and Human Services guidelines, which include limitations of spectators/guests, social distancing and masks.

“Our goal is to stay within the guidelines but provide the students with as much normalcy as we can and hopefully create some special memories as well for them and their families.”

Mesyar said plans may need to change based on changing recommendations and requirements by MDHHS. But, at this time, the following events are planned:

  • Thursday, April 22, National Honor Society Induction Ceremony, sophomores, 7:15 p.m., Hawley Gymnasium.
  • Wednesday, May 5, NHS Induction Ceremony, juniors, 7:15 p.m., Hawley Gymnasium.
  • Thursday, May 6, Alpha Grad Ceremony, 7 p.m., Hawley Gym.
  • Friday, May 21, Oriole Work-Based Learning Academy Graduation, 6:30 p.m., L.F. Peterson Auditorium.
  • Friday, May 28, LHS Graduation, 2 p.m., Oriole Field (alternative plan, parade and drive-thru graduation at LHS);  Saturday, May 29, back-up date.
  • Saturday, May 29, Fireworks and video board slide show, 9:15 p.m., Oriole Field.
