SCOTTVILLE — Several local organizations helped distribute 1,100 boxes of food to families throughout Mason County today through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Farmers to Families program. Last summer the program distributed food for several weeks with a pick-up site at the Mason County Fairgrounds in Pere Marquette Township. Through a coordinated effort between several agencies and the Lakeshore Food Club, today’s food was initially delivered to Gourmet Mushrooms in Scottville, which donated the use of a forklift and driver, along with its warehouse. From there, the various agencies, schools, and organizations picked up the boxes and brought them to their communities to distribute.

This round of the program will continue for four more weeks, according to ONealya Gronstal, executive director of the Lakeshore Food Club, who emphasized that those in need of boxes are asked not to come to the Gourmet Mushroom distribution site. Instead, they should check with local community organizations that are distributing the boxes.
