New Year’s Eve virtual event announced.

LUDINGTON — This year’s Ludington New Year’s Eve ball drop was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As an alternative, the Downtown Ludington Board is holding a virtual New Year’s Eve event that will take place on Facebook. The virtual event will include a video contest titled Bye Bye 2020.

“We didn’t have the heart not to make plans for New Year’s Eve in Ludington, but we knew that the traditional event that draws 10,000 people just wasn’t safe in the midst of a pandemic.” says Jen Tooman, Downtown Ludington communications and marketing manager.

The event committee is working on a special virtual show which will include music, live interviews, highlights of 2020, and content submitted as part of the Bye Bye 2020 video contest. Participants are encouraged to create a short video in one of four categories: countdowns, positive messages, skits, and talent. The contest may be entered by submitting the video online. All of the videos will be played throughout the live show on December 31, 2020.

The event committee will choose its favorite videos to win prizes. The Ludington Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, the event sponsor, will award Downtown Gift Certificates: first place, $250; second place, $100, and third place, $50, in each category.

Winners will be announced during the virtual event and the first place countdown video will be shown at 11:59 to countdown to 2021.
