Fire destroys PM Twp. home.

PERE MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — Four fire departments responded to a house fire early this morning at the Timothy and Billie Anderson residence, 2648 S. Pere Marquette Highway. Pere Marquette Township Fire Department and Riverton Township Fire Department were initially called at 2:04 a.m.

PM Fire Chief Larry Gaylord said the fire started in a gazebo that contained a hot tub near the house. The fire then spread to the garage and into the house, Gaylord said. The occupants were able to get out safely.

Gaylord said he could not yet confirm the exact origin of the fire. He described the house as “unsalvageable.”

Hamlin Township Fire Department and Ludington Fire Department were also called to assist. Mason County Sheriff’s Office and Michigan State Police were also on scene. Pere Marquette Highway was closed in that area for the five hours firefighters were on scene.
