Gail Dougherty

Obituary: Gail (Morse) Dougherty, 68, Ann Arbor.

Gail DeLynn (Morse) Dougherty passed away peacefully on August 16, 2020 surrounded by the love of her family at their home in Ann Arbor. Although her loved ones mourn, they are comforted by how fortunate and content Gail felt about the joyful and fulfilling life she lived.

Gail was born in Ludington on October 13, 1951 to Frank and Clarissa Morse. Gail was raised in eastern Mason County in close proximity to her many relatives.  She held fond memories of a loving, fun, and adventurous childhood. She was a 1969 graduate of Mason County Eastern High School.  For college she began at Michigan State University and completed her studies and undergraduate degree at the University of Michigan.

On August 26, 1972, Gail married Dana Dougherty of Scottville, MI. Gail and Dana were happily married for nearly 48 years. They shared many adventures, completed countless projects and were an example of love, devotion and teamwork to those who knew them. Gail had an active and enriching social life.  Her fun loving and thoughtful personality endeared her to a wide array of friends.  She had an interest in anything related to horses. She enjoyed a good book, getting her hands dirty in one of her many gardens, any water activity, golfing with friends, and last but not least numerous adventurous travels. She channeled her considerable artistic and creative talent through sewing and craft projects. Her gifts of mittens, costumes, clothing, dolls and quilts are cherished reminders of her skill and generosity.

Gail is survived by her husband Dana; mother Clarissa Morse; daughters Laurel (David) Landrum and Brooke (Jason) Dougherty-Reyes; grandchildren Dominic, Blake, Claire, Sabine and Laida. She is also survived by her siblings, Renee (Brian) Peterson and David Morse; sister-in-law Diane (Jim) Ringold  and brother-in-law Donn (Jodi) Dougherty; as well as many extended relatives.

She was preceded in death by her father, Frank Morse and in-laws Richard and Doris Dougherty.

Gail was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in November 2017. Throughout her fight with this disease she remained her positive, cheerful, and kindhearted self.  She put her family and friends at ease with her strength and peaceful aura. The outpouring of love and support that she received in her final months was immeasurable and the family would like to thank all for these gestures.

Due to Covid-19 concerns no memorial service will be held.  A virtual celebration of Gail’s life will be forthcoming.  Those wishing to make a contribution in Gail’s memory can do so to the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance https://ocrahope.org/.
