Grant Fire Dept. assists with Manistee bar fire.

MANISTEE — Grant Township Fire Department was called to assist with a fire at the Hi-Way Bar, 715 Kosciusko St. Tuesday morning. Manistee City Fire Department was initially dispatched to the fire at 5:39 a.m. According to Fire Chief Mark Cameron, firefighters found flames visible at the rear of the two-story building upon arrival.

One occupant was assisted out of the upstairs apartment by a Manistee City Police officer, Cameron said.  There were no occupant or firefighter injuries reported during this event.

The arriving duty crew was able to quickly knock down the fire and prevent it from spreading to the front of the structure, Cameron said.

Manistee Fire Department was also assisted by Filer Township Fire Department, Manistee Township Fire Department, and Stronach Fire Department.

Other agencies assisting were Manistee County Air Truck, North Flight EMS, Manistee County Sheriff’s Office, Manistee City Police, and the American Red Cross.  Onekama Fire Department and East Lake Fire Department were contacted and placed in standby operation for additional emergency coverage.

A Michigan State Police fire marshal was contacted to determine a cause of the fire. The fire remains under investigation.
