No carnival, entertainment at fair

PERE MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — The Western Michigan Fair Association has announced that the 2020 fair schedule will be modified, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. All entertainment, still exhibits, grandstand events, and carnival rides have been cancelled. However, livestock shows and the West Michigan Livestock Council Auction will take place.

“The decision was made after many discussions over the past months with our providers, vendors, and community partners who all have assisted in making the fair such a great event in years past,” said fair board President Ken Ferwerda. “We understand many would like to see the fair moving forward as normal. The health and safety of our community is a top priority and modifying our schedule is the best option. The Michigan Safe Start Plan does not permit gatherings the size of our typical fair until phase 6, which adds a lot of uncertainty to our planning phases. The Western Michigan Fair Association board of directors is hopeful 2021 will bring an opportunity for a regular fair to be conducted.”

The 2020 show schedule will be released on July 1. The fair’s regularly scheduled dates were Aug. 11 through 15.
