LUDINGTON — A 20-year-Custer man pleaded guilty Tuesday, May 12, in 51st Circuit Court to attempted first-degree criminal sexual conduct (CSC).

Alexander Cole Mayse, of High St., faces serving eight months up front of a one-year discretionary jail term in exchange for his plea. Mayse must also register as a sex offender and serve five years probation.

The victim is a 12-year-old girl, and the incident occurred last summer in the City of Ludington, said Mason County Prosecutor Paul Spaniola.

One count of first-degree CSC, which is punishable by up to life in prison, was dismissed in exchange for his plea. The maximum penalty for attempted first-degree CSC is five years in prison.

Mayse, who is out on bond, appeared in court via Zoom due to COVID-19 precautions.

Sentencing is set for June 23 at 1:15 p.m.
