2020 Gus Macker tourney cancelled.

PERE MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — The Ludington & Scottville Area Chamber of Commerce has announced it has cancelled this year’s Ludington Gus Macker Charity 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament, which was scheduled for June 20-21.

“This is the largest Gus Macker in the country, so we know it will disappoint a lot of people, but there are a lot of circumstances that have been taken into consideration during this difficult decision-making process,” said Brandy Miller, president/CEO of the Chamber.

“While the timeline of this pandemic is uncertain, we felt it was in the best interest of our community, volunteers, players and spectators to not gather thousands of people for this event. Additionally, this event is dependent on the generous donations of our local business community, and we know financially COVID-19 has been a strain on our sponsoring businesses. We know our sponsors need their funds right now and want them to keep their businesses solvent during this challenging time,” Miller added.

The Ludington Gus Macker, which takes place at Stearns Park, has been a fundraiser for local non-profit and athletic organizations for 28 years. In 2019, over $27,500 was raised for local charities and concessionnaires participating in the tournament. Approximately 750 teams and their families traveled to Ludington to participate in the 2019 tournament.

“We support the local community in this decision,” said Scott McNeal, owner of Gus Macker Basketball. “Ludington has always been one of the prized tournaments each year, so we are looking forward to coming back in 2021.”

The 2021 tournament is currently set for June 19-20.
