Western Michigan Fair still planned for Aug. 11-15.

PERE MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — The Western Michigan Fair Association is currently still planning on holding the fair scheduled for Aug. 11 to 15 at the Mason County Fairgrounds. Michigan State University Extension has suspended all face-to-face 4-H youth programs until Sept. 1, however, because the WMF is an “open” fair, youth may still exhibit at the fair, but they cannot be affiliated with a 4-H group.

Open fair means anyone, youth and adults, can participate and exhibit.

“WMFA has worked closely with the MSU Extension – Mason County 4-H Youth Program office and their absence this year will be greatly felt,” said fair association President Ken Ferwerda. “WMFA will be making every effort based on current and credible recommendations that any youth who may be impacted will have a safe and positive experience at the fair.”

Ferwerda said currently the West Michigan Livestock Council auction is moving forward.

“The board of directors will be working on developing extra plans ensuring our youth and community will have their talents and projects showcased even in the event of a non-traditional fair. The WMFA will be constantly monitoring for ever changing conditions to move forward with this year’s fair. Ultimately we must do what is in the best interest for the health and safety of the community.”
