Guns, crossbow stolen following phony Census worker visit.

BRANCH TOWNSHIP — Three firearms and a crossbow were stolen from a residence in the 6200 block of East Hansen Road Tuesday, March 31, “after two male subjects approached the homeowner wearing surgical type masks and gloves earlier in the day claiming to be US Census workers,” said Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole.

“The subjects in question were last seen in a black passenger vehicle,” Cole said.

The sheriff warned residents Tuesday about the suspicious activity occurring in the community.

“We have received complaints of subjects going door-to-door in Mason County claiming to be from the US Census Bureau,” states a post on the Mason County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page. “Two subjects were wearing black masks over their mouths and latex gloves. The US Census Bureau has NOT begun their door-to-door campaign. If you have suspicious subjects showing up claiming to be from the Census Bureau, please call 911 and obtain as much information of them and their vehicle.”
