AMBER TOWNSHIP — A 22-year-old Branch man was arrested by Michigan State Police troopers from the Hart post early Friday morning, March 27, after he allegedly pulled the fire alarm at the Holiday Inn Express, 4079 W. US 10, and was later apprehended behind the hotel in a swampy area. The suspect was naked and bloody, sitting on the ground, talking to himself, said Sgt. Dan Thomas.

Troopers and Mason County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the hotel around 12:30 a.m. for what was initially believed to be a domestic situation after the fire alarm was pulled. An employee called 911, Thomas said. There was blood on the alarm handle and on the walls of the hotel, he said. The man, who was intoxicated and possibly under the influence of drugs, had cuts on his hands, but it is not immediately known how he sustained the injuries.

He was treated at the scene by Life EMS, and personal protective equipment (PPE) was used by paramedics and police, Thomas said.

Troopers and deputies followed a blood trail in the hotel to track him down.

The man was arrested on charges of resisting arrest, disorderly person and false use of a fire alarm.

“We believe he was on some kind of narcotic,” Thomas said.

No one else was injured, he said, and no one was staying with him at the hotel.

The man attempted to run from officers when they first made contact with him and he pulled away from them and refused to obey commands when they first attempted to apprehend him, Thomas said.

The suspect was apprehended south of the hotel heading toward the railroad tracks.
