SUMMIT TOWNSHIP — A 41-year-old Baldwin man is in serious condition following a single vehicle rollover vehicle crash that took place late Sunday evening, Oct. 27, 2019.

The crash occurred on southbound US 31 near the Pere Marquette Highway overpass, north of the Mason-Oceana counties line. According to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole, the man was driving a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta southbound on US 31 when he apparently lost control of the vehicle, ran into the median and rolled the vehicle over. The driver, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, was ejected from the vehicle.

He was transported by ambulance to Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital then flown by AeroMed helicopter to Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids where he was being treated for serious injuries, Cole said.

“Speed is believed to have been a factor and toxicology tests are pending,” Cole said.  The case remains under investigation by the MCSO.

Emergency units responding included MCSO, Michigan State Police, Pere Marquette Township Fire Department, Ludington Fire Department, and Life EMS.
