Flooding and beach advisories issued for Wednesday, Thursday.

Smith & Eddy Insurance Weather.

The National Weather Service has issued a lakeshore flood advisory until 5 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 29. A beach hazard statement for the Lake Michigan shoreline in Mason County and surrounding areas remains in effect through late Wednesday evening, Aug. 30. High wave action, strong currents and dangerous swimming conditions are expected. Strong structural and longshore currents are expected, as well as rip currents. Lakeshore flooding and beach erosion are likely. Water forced into channels between pier heads may flood portions of port towns along the river channel edges. Waves may completely submerge pier docks at times. Statement covers an area from Manistee south to St. Joseph.

West winds will increase tonight to 15 to 25 mph. Winds on Wednesday will increase to 20 to 30 mph with gusts towards 35 mph at times. Waves will build to 3 to 6 feet tonight and to 4 to 8 feet on Wednesday. While winds and waves will briefly relax late Wednesday and early Thursday, they will ramp up and become hazardous again by Thursday afternoon, especially north of Holland.

Avoid swimming in Lake Michigan.
