Effort underway to raise funds for AED at fair.

PERE MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — Sandy Quillan is raising funds to purchase an automatic external defibrillator (AED) for the Mason County Fairgrounds. Quillan is a registered nurse and said she was surprised when she found out that there wasn’t an AED at the fairgrounds.

“My two sons are on the Western Michigan Fair Association board and they asked me to get involved,” she said. “I have reached out for grants and now I want to take it to the public.”

Quillan said she would like to purchase an AED that is compatible with the one used by Life EMS ambulance and the local fire departments. Once the defibrillator is purchased she would also like to see fair board members learn how to use it.

“I would also like to see a first aid tent at the fair,” she said.

Anyone wishing to make a donation can deposit that donation in an account set up at West Shore Bank.

The Western Michigan Fair is Aug. 6 – 10. Quillan said the AED would be available for all events held at the fairgrounds, which include several large horse shows.
