PERE MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP – A 42-year-old Mears man was arrested at Walmart Wedesday, July 10, for “under ringing” merchandise in the self checkout lane, allegedly stealing a total of $146, said Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole.

Mason County sheriff’s deputies, who were at the store for an unrelated matter, were made aware of the suspect “under ringing” merchandise — ringing in cheaper items for more expensive items, Cole said.

“During a routine record check, deputies also learned the subject was wanted on a felony stolen auto warrant out of Pima County, Arizona,” he said.

The man was arrested shortly before noon and is currently lodged in the Mason County Jail. His name is being withheld pending arraignment.
