LUDINGTON — A 57-year-old man has recently been charged with felony larceny charges along with charges of failing to register as a sex offender. Larry Author Collins, address unknown, was arrested by the Mason County Sheriff’s Office on May 29 and charged with larceny after he allegedly stole a jacket in Pere Marquette Township, according to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole.

During the investigation, deputies discovered that Collins had recently moved to Michigan from Indiana, where he was required to register as a sex offender. Upon moving to Michigan he failed to notify Michigan authorities of his status.

Collins, whose last known address was 19 S. Webster Ave., Apt. A, Indianapolis, was convicted in Indiana in 2008 on charges of sexual misconduct with a minor. He was sentenced to six years in prison and six years suspended. Under Indiana state law, he is required to register until Nov. 18, 2026.

Collins is currently lodged in the Mason County Jail on the larceny charges while arraignment for the sex offender registration charges are pending, according to Cole. Bail was set by the Mason County magistrate at $7,500/10%.
