Obituary: Margaret ‘Peggy’ Kortge, 82, Ludington.

Our beloved Margaret J. “Peggy” Kortge, 82, of Ludington passed away Sunday, March 24, 2019. She was born the oldest of six children on November 8, 1936 in Lansing to Buford V. and Margaret J. (Hutchens) Millner. After graduating from Sexton High School, she married the late Corliss Kortge on November 19, 1960 in Lansing. Together they raised four children.

Corliss and Peggy owned and operated several adult foster care facilities including Pinecrest Adult Foster Care and Sunnybrook Adult Foster Care. Later in life, Peggy’s caring personality led her to continue her nursing education at West Shore Community College. She worked hard and proudly graduated with her LPN license. She also worked for Cottage Hospital in California and Oakview Medical Care Facility in Ludington before retiring.

Peggy was a member of the Summit Church of Christ in Ludington, a member of the Michigan Licensed Practical Nurses Association, and a member of the Retired Nurse’s Brunch Club. In her spare time she enjoyed her volunteer work at the hospital in Ludington, and loved dancing at the Custer VFW. She was a very social person who loved spending time with her family and friends. Everyone who met Peggy quickly became her friend or an honorary member of her family.

Peggy will be greatly missed by her four children, Cheryl (Martin) Schilling of Walhalla, Jon (Kari) Kortge of Scottville, Laurie (David) Shilander of Custer, and Kim (Will) Smith of Cary, Ill.;  her 15 grandchildren, Keela (Rob) Kaper, Kyle Schilling, Melissa Jensen, Jon (Jill) Jensen, Jessica Kortge, Calvin Kortge, Tyler Kortge, Zach Kortge, Stephanie Shilander, Jordan (Alisha) Shilander, Jared Shilander, Maya, Simone, Jackson, and Layla Smith; her numerous great-grandchildren; her five siblings, Patricia (Lyle) Hanson, Barbara (Russ) Ross, James Millner, Kathy Archer, Tom Millner; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Corliss.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, March 30, 2019 at 11 a.m. at the Oak Grove Funeral Home in Ludington. Family will greet friends starting at 10 a.m. the Reverend Damon Beaver will be presiding.

Memorial contributions in Peggy’s name may be directed to the Summit Church of Christ, the Alzheimer’s Foundation or the American Cancer Society.
