Billy Cox

Obituary: William ‘Billy’ Cox, 40, Free Soil.

William “Billy” Charles Cox of Free Soil was diagnosed with AML Leukemia (FLT 3 gene mutation- very rare and aggressive form of Leukemia) on November 5, 2018 and lost his battle on December 2, 2018 in Spectrum Health Butterworth of Grand Rapids. He was 40 years old. Billy was born in Ludington on October 13, 1978 to William Cox and Penny. He married Ronee Williams on March 16, 2006 in Ludington; she survives him. He graduated from Mason County Central High School, class of 1997. He was employed by Hardman Construction Inc. as an operating engineer.

Surviving are his beloved wife Ronee Cox; his adored daughters Bristol, 4-years-old, and Rayna Cox, 2-years-old; sister-in-law Sheena Williams; sister-in-law Cori (Blake, Blakely and Gwen) Towns; in-laws, Ron and Debbie Williams; surviving also are his father William (Marcine) Cox; his two half brothers and his step sister; his grandparents William and Shirley Cox; his grandparents Sonja and Charlie Argue; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Billy’s commitment to family and work was evident. He worked just as hard as he played. He went above and beyond to help others even if he didn’t know them and wanted everyone to have a good time. When he wasn’t working he enjoyed every moment with Ronee and his girls. Family was his number one priority and always encouraged everyone to take full advantage of what life has to offer.

He was Ronee’s soulmate, inspiration, steadfast rock that helped her through thick and thin, navigate through life’s challenges, successes, and celebrations.

Billy’s good nature, his unforgettable laugh, his ability to make everyone feel comfortable and secure were his greatest strengths. To say he was proud of his two girls was an understatement. Bristol and Rayna were his everything and he would travel any amount of time to go trick or treating, attend a preschool event or just to say hello. Daily skype videos before they went to bed, weekend razor rides, and dance parties, were his favorite memories. Having Ronee home with the girls meant everything to him and he worked hard to provide them with a safe and loving home.

In March of 2019, it would be 13 years of marriage for Billy and Ronee, it is easy to look back at those years with happiness to a devoted husband, wonderful father, best friend and so much more.

We will celebrate Billy’s life on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at Lakeside Links Golf Course from 1 to 3p.m. Tacos and cash bar will be available. Billy would want all his family and friends to share stories and reminisce over the good times together. If you have a “Team Billy” shirt please wear it in honor of him.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Oak Grove Funeral Home of Ludington, www.oakgroveludington.com.
