Cougar sighting in Custer Township?

CUSTER TOWNSHIP — Tim Dill found this picture on one of his trail cameras of what he believes is a cougar near US 10 and Bean Road just outside of Scottville. The picture was taken on Sunday, Nov. 4. Others may argue that it is a bobcat.

Cougars were originally native to Michigan, but were extirpated from Michigan around the turn of the 20th century. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is typically reluctant to admit that cougars still exist in the Lower Peninsula, according to past news reports.

Dill said he spotted a cougar two years ago while deer hunting on First Street near Brye Road in Amber Township.
