County clerk offers advice for Tuesday election.

Tuesday is the Michigan Primary Election. Mason County Clerk Cheryl Kelly has submitted the following advice to voters:

With the State of Michigan Primary Election on Tuesday, August 7, 2018, here is some information and reminders for first time and returning voters:

Registered voters will have the opportunity to cast their vote for one of three parties: the Republican, the Democratic, or the Libertarian Party. Reminder for voters that this is an open primary, meaning voters may vote in one party section only.  Voters may not “split” their ticket in this election. If they do vote for more than one party section, the partisan ballot will be rejected. (but no worries, they can be issued another.)

Nominations from this election will move on to the November 6, 2018 State General Election.

A few points to remember:

  • Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.
  • Voters needed to have registered by July 9, 2018 in order to vote in this Primary.
  • Mason County will be kicking off use of the new Election Systems & Software election equipment.
  • Voters have the ability to choose a regular ballot or use the new Express Easy Vote to markballot card for them. The new Express Vote is ADA compliant.
  • Please make sure to have photo identification available or be willing to sign An Affidavit of Voter not in Possession of Picture Identification.
  • Please be patient and allow extra time when visiting the polls.
  • If you would like to view your ballot ahead of time, you can go to www.michigan.gov.sos and access the Michigan Voter Information Center.
  • Voters can contact their local City or Township Clerk, as clerks will have offices hours on Saturday to assist absentee voters.
  • Voters can vote absentee ballot on Monday, August 6, 2018  up to 4 p.m. in person,  with their local City or Township clerk. Please contact your local clerk.
