College board considering contracting janitorial services for Arts & Sciences Center.

VICTORY TOWNSHIP — West Shore Community College’s Board of Trustees is scheduled to take action on contracting out janitorial services for its Arts and Sciences Center during a special meeting today. The college already contracts with Northern Floor Care of Riverton Township for janitorial services at the Recreation Center and West Shore Community Ice Arena for $88,200 a year.

“With the retirement of a custodian on July 31, 2018, administrative staff reviewed several alternatives for replacement or outsourcing,” President Scott Ward wrote to the board in a pre-meeting memorandum.”Three different quotes were solicited from Northern Floor Care for different scenarios. After considering the impact on college operations and the workload of existing staff, administrative staff concurred that outsourcing the janitorial services for the Arts and Sciences Center as the preferred alternative. If this change is approved, this will be the third custodian position not replaced since January 2017.”

Ward said both Michael Moore, director of recreation services, and Mark Lipps, supervisor of facilities, are “very pleased with the high quality of cleaning provided by Northern Floor Care and the working relationship with their staff. Facility users have also noted the quality of service the college is receiving from Northern Floor Care.”

Northern Floor Care submitted a bid of $78,000 for yearly janitorial services at the Arts and Sciences Center beginning Aug. 1. Ward is recommending the board approve the request.

The board meets at 5 p.m. in the Administrative and Conference Building on the main campus.
