Kimes to offer new EP exclusively for local audience.

LUDINGTON — On Sept. 7, Scottville native Chloe Kimes will release her debut EP “Apothecary” on all the major download and streaming platforms. But, this Thursday, July 26, she will make the EP available for sale on CD to audience members attending her concert at the Ludington Area Center for the Arts.

She said she wanted to offer the limited purchase only for her Michigan audiences, at the arts center in Ludington and the Dunesville Music Festival in Lake Ann this weekend. 

Thursday’s concert is a fundraiser for the arts center, a place that has a special place in the heart of the 2016 Mason County Central graduate.

Chloe, 20, is a student at Middle Tennessee State University in Nashville, Tenn. and the daughter of Kevin and Lisa Kimes of Riverton Township. In January of this year, she released a single, “I’ll Be Going.” That song, along with five others will appear on “Apothecary.”

The album is made up of some songs she wrote a few years ago and some newer songs. “The old song on the record is 4-years-old and then there are some I wrote this year,” she says.

Apothecary is a term for a medical professional who formulates and dispenses medicine to physicians, surgeons, and patients. The modern pharmacist has taken over this role.

“In making this work, I didn’t feel like there was anything I could name it at first,” Chloe says. “I was trying to find a common thread. One of my favorite tracks is a sound called “Medicine Man” and I was trying to pick through the lines in that song and trying to figure out what really me. I was thinking of this idea of potions and cures and it occurred to me that this collection of songs is my own personal collection of remedies. Writing is very therapeutic and very person for me. These songs are about different experiences in my life and I look at these songs as my own person cures.”

In the fall, the EP will be available on CD and also by download on ITunes as well as all streaming platforms, Spotify, Apple Music, Google Play, etc.

Concert goers attending Chloe’s show at the Ludington Area for the Center of the Arts on Thursday, July 26 may get to hear some of the songs from the EP. Chloe says she’s looking forward to coming back to her hometown and helping out the arts center.

“The songs I’ll be playing will be different than the songs I’ve done in the area in the past. Most of the songs will be my original tunes. Some new and some old. I’ll be playing a few cover tunes here and there just because they’re fun to play. The songs are all personal and intimate.”

“The arts center is a really important asset to Ludington,” Chloe says. “I was part of Breakwall Arts, a youth arts program that really inspired me to be in music. I’ve grown up going to events at the arts center and I want to see it continue.”

Ticket sales for the 7 p.m. show are available for $15 and can be reserved here. The Ludington Area Center for the Arts is located at 107 S. Harrison, Ludington.
