B-17 tours, rides available Monday, Tuesday.

PERE MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — The Yankee Air Force B-17 from Willow Run will be at the Mason County Airport on Monday, July 2 and Tuesday, July 3 from approximately 9 a.m. to about 5 p.m.

This World War II aircraft is one of nine flying B-17s still operating in the entire world.  B-17s were used in raids that involved sometimes up to 1,000 planes. At times 300 or more planes were lost in a single raid during World War II. The Yankee Air Force where the B-17 is housed is an all volunteer organization out of Willow Run.  Maintaining historical aircraft is its goal, sharing aviation history with communities. Operation of the B-17 for one hour costs over $3,500. This particular plane needed a new turret for the gunner. An intact turret was purchased by the film company that was used in the movie “Memphis Belle”.

Tours  are available for $8 for adults ages 15 and up, $3 for children ages 6 – 14, and free for children ages 5 and under.

Ride tickets are $450 per person.
