PERE MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — Michigan Power cogeneration plant has been acquired by Osaka Gas USA, a wholly owned subsidiary of Osaka Gas Co. Ltd.

Michigan Power is an approximately 125 MW gas-fired cogeneration facility that has been in operation since October 1995. It is located on Sixth Street west of Pere Marquette Highway.

The facility provides electricity to Consumers Energy Co. under a power purchase agreement and also sells steam on a long-term contractual basis to Occidental Chemical Corp., which manufactures calcium chloride.

“Upon receiving required governmental permits and transaction closing, Osaka Gas USA will be operating the power business with the plant as 100% share owner,” according to a statement on the company’s website.

Wolverine Power, which is owned by Rockland Capital LLC of Woodlands, Texas, purchased the facility at the end of 2015 from Boston-based ArcLight Capital Partners LLC.

Rockland Capital operated the power plant as part of its $425 million Rockland Power Partners II LP fund, which it launched in 2003. The company also owns a cogeneration power plant in Midland.

Osaka Gas Co. is a producer and supplier of natural gas for the Osaka, Kyoto, and Hyogo areas in Japan.
