LUDINGTON — A 47-year-old Grand Rapids man was ordered to pay $28,665.80 for a conviction of failure to pay child support in 51st Circuit Court Tuesday, April 24.

Jason Allen Comstock was also sentenced to serve 130 days up front of a one-year discretionary jail term with credit for 130 days served and two years probation.

Comstock, who a was extradited from South Dakota, was also ordered to pay $962 for extradition expenses.

Sentencing guidelines in the case are two to 17 months, said Mason County Prosecutor Paul Spaniola.

Comstock pleaded guilty to the charge last February following his apprehension.

Spaniola said Comstock failed to appear for a court hearing in 2016 and absconded by leaving the state.

“I was hoping in 2016 this would be taken care of,” Comstock said. “I had nowhere to go, and it was winter time in Michigan. It has been a horrible, horrible two years. I take full responsibility and will pay the child support. I just want this taken care of.”

Judge Susan K. Sniegowski said it’s more important for Comstock to be working than to be in jail, so he can pay the arrearages.
